Schneider Electric announced Industrial Automation Modernization as a Service, a new offering designed to help industrial organizations modernize automation environments without disrupting production.
The offering combines Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Automation Expert (EAE), services, and lifecycle expertise with HPE SimpliVity hybrid cloud infrastructure and software. The combined solution provides a foundation for software-defined automation (SDA) and is intended to help support incremental modernization alongside existing PLC and DCS systems.
Industrial organizations are under pressure to modernize aging control systems, strengthen cybersecurity, address workforce gaps, and prepare for more data-driven and AI-enabled operations. However, many modernization initiatives are constrained by proprietary architectures, operational risk, and the cost of large-scale infrastructure replacement.
Schneider Electric’s Industrial Automation Modernization as a Service model is intended to help organizations preserve existing automation investments, while adopting open, software-defined automation over time. The approach shifts parts of automation modernization from capital expenditure to an operating expenditure model.
The offering includes three main layers:
Infrastructure foundation, using HPE compute, storage, and data protection technologies for industrial workloads
Software and control as a service, using open, software-defined automation that can be deployed and governed centrally
People and lifecycle services, including assessment, migration, managed operations, cybersecurity, and continuous optimization
The architecture is built around EcoStruxure Automation Expert and HPE infrastructure technologies, including HPE SimpliVity. Schneider Electric positions this combination to help support reliability, data protection, and operational resilience in mission-critical industrial environments.
Industrial Automation Modernization as a Service is also positioned around open standards. Schneider Electric and HPE are both members of UniversalAutomation.org, an initiative focused on open, software-defined automation based on the IEC 61499 standard. The offering is intended to help customers modernize incrementally and reduce dependency on a single vendor’s hardware roadmap.
Industrial Automation Modernization as a Service supports multiple deployment approaches, including on-site control, private cloud environments, and distributed architectures. This can help industrial operators maintain governance, uptime, and application portability across edge and cloud environments.
