Knowledge capture in manufacturing is crucial as it ensures that valuable knowledge and expertise are not lost when employees leave the organization. It enables the creation of a repository of information which can include tribal knowledge that can be used to solve problems, make informed decisions, and support continuous improvement. The real value is derived from applying this captured knowledge in decision support applications to enhance the role of the organization’s personnel. This is particularly important in the face of increasing retirements and other workforce churn. Efficient knowledge management can help minimize plant incidents primarily caused by human intervention due to insufficient knowledge, procedure, and operator errors.
